The Avalon Theatre is seeking applications for a part-time Program Assistant to support all aspects of the Avalon’s Cinema Classroom at the Avalon program, including program development and implementation, outreach to the education community, and document and material creation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Coordination
- Collaboration with the Director of Education to implement routine programming for local school groups
- Co-development of film education materials and activities
- Co-facilitate film programs and discussions with guest speakers
- Skilled in designing and adapting educational content for grades 6–12
Administrative Support
- Provide assistance with a school registration, participant transportation, resource dissemination, and program evaluation
- Monitor email communications and respond to routine inquiries from educators and stakeholders
- Drafting meeting agendas and notes for monthly Cinema Classroom advisory meetings
- Tracking attendance, participation, and feedback
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Draft electronic communications to constituents
- Developing social media content to increase program visibility
- Promote Cinema Classroom at local events to deepen connections with demographically and geographically diverse populations
- Expand outreach efforts to engage a more diverse and inclusive range of schools and communities
- Participate in partnership-building activities alongside, or in place of, the Director of Education
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education
- Minimum of two years of experience working with youth, ideally with middle or high school students
- Experience developing and facilitating classroom or workshop curricula

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Salary range: ($25-30, depending on experience)
- Compensation: Hourly, up to 20 weekly
- Status: Part-time
- Location: Flexible hybrid work schedule with remote opportunities
- Some programs may require travel to Washington, DC area schools
The Avalon offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule that enables staff to work from the office and/or home depending on the individual’s and Avalon’s needs. The Avalon will consider a contractor arrangement. The position reports to the Director of Education.
