    We’re seeking a Grants Manager who is passionate about advancing social change and securing the resources needed to fuel our mission. Supporting both our 501(c)(3), the North Carolina Black Alliance (NCBA), and our 501(c)(4) Advance North Carolina (ANC).

    Description

    The Grants Manager is responsible for overseeing the full grant lifecycle, from research and proposal development to post-award compliance and reporting. This role will serve as a primary co-creator of content for all NCBA and ANC grant awards and serve as an intercessory between program, development, finance, and leadership teams to ensure effective grant management and compliance. You’ll work hand-in-hand with our Development Director to align grant funding with our broader fundraising goals, collaborating with program teams to bring stories, data, and impact to life in grant proposals and reports.

    What You’ll Do

    Grant Writing & Research

    • Find the Right Opportunities – Research and identify new grant funding prospects that align with our mission.
    • Tell Our Story – Write clear, compelling grant proposals and applications that make a strong case for why funders should invest in our work.
    • Collaborate Across Teams – Work with program leaders to gather insights, data, and real-life impact stories to strengthen proposals.
    • Support Development Strategy – Ensure grant proposals align with the organization’s broader fundraising plan, as directed by the Development Director.

    Grant Management & Compliance

    • Oversee Grant Lifecycle – Manage all aspects of awarded grants, including compliance, reporting, and funder stewardship.
    • Ensure Accountability – Track and report on grant-funded activities, making sure we’re meeting our commitments to funders.
    • Work with Finance – Coordinate with the finance team to monitor grant budgets and spending, ensuring alignment with funder requirements.

    Funder Relations & Reporting

    • Prepare Grant Reports – Develop and submit timely and accurate reports to funders, demonstrating program impact and financial accountability.
    • Keep the Team Informed – Provide regular updates to leadership and program staff on grant progress, funding opportunities, and requirements.
    • Funder Relations – Maintain strong relationships with funders, ensuring they understand the impact of their investment.

    Financial & Data Management

    • Collaborate with Finance – Work closely with the finance team to track grant budgets and expenditures, ensuring alignment with funder requirements.
    • Utilize Development Systems – Maintain accurate records in donor and grant management platforms, such as EveryAction or similar CRM tools.

    Process Improvement

    • Evaluate Systems – Assess and improve grant management processes and systems for efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Stay Informed – Keep abreast of best practices in grant management and nonprofit fundraising.

    What You Bring

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Writing, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related field.

    Experience that Counts:

    2-5 years of nonprofit grant writing, grant management, or development experience.

    Skills:

    • A Way with Words - Strong grant writing, storytelling, and research abilities.
    • A Strategic Mindset – Ability to connect funding opportunities to programmatic and organizational goals.
    • Organized & Detail-Oriented - Exceptional project management and organizational skills to juggle multiple deadlines and requirements.
    • Tech-Savvy - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite/Google Suite, CRM/grant tracking systems, and familiarity with grant management software.
    • Self-Motivated & Collaborative - Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with teams.

    Preferred:

    • Experience working with both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) funding.
    • A background in fundraising strategy and donor relations.
    • Familiarity with North Carolina’s political and nonprofit landscape.

    Salary range

    • $55,000 - $65,000 per year
