About Minds Matter Boston
Minds Matter Boston (MMB) is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to connect driven and determined students from low-income families with the people, preparation, and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world. For the last 15+ years, every Minds Matter Boston graduate has gained admission to a 4-year college, and 97% of alumni are still enrolled or have graduated from a 4-year college.
Position Overview
The Manager of Volunteers is responsible for designing, organizing, and implementing the programs and strategies for volunteer recruitment, engagement, and retention. This role will build strong partnerships both inside and outside of Minds Matter Boston to recruit, place, and retain a diverse and energized group of dedicated volunteers. Working with leadership across the organization, the Manager of Volunteers will work to expand the volunteer pipeline and ensure that vital operations are appropriately staffed to meet our mission and goals.
The Manager of Volunteers reports to the Associate Director of College Access (ADCA). This highly collaborative position works with stakeholders throughout the organization, including all Minds Matter Boston staff members, the volunteer corps, and corporate and community partners.
This position has regular work days from Tuesday to Saturday during the school year, with occasional evening meetings.
Core Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment
- Oversee the mentor recruitment and volunteer leadership recruitment process, including maintaining all materials and tools, delegating responsibilities to the MMB staff, and ensuring the team is on track to reach their annual recruitment goals
- Nurture relationships with corporate and community partnerships throughout the year to understand how our collaboration can support our recruitment efforts
- Plan and facilitate mentor recruitment info sessions, both in-person and virtually, throughout recruitment season
- In collaboration with the Program leadership, identify new marketing opportunities and support efforts to broaden MMB’s presence in the greater Boston volunteer community
- Maintain all data tracking measures to ensure the team has an accurate sense of progress throughout the recruitment season
Volunteer Training & Onboarding
- In partnership with Program leadership, organize and facilitate training sessions for all volunteers that prepare them to volunteer with Minds Matter Boston and to work with our students
- Ensure that 100% of volunteers are in compliance with mandatory prerequisites, including undergoing a background check
- Support off-cycle onboarding for mentors who join in the middle of a program year
- Maintain and distribute a volunteer handbook that is consistently updated with current policies and best practices
Volunteer Engagement & Culture
- Manage our Associate Board, a young professionals board of volunteer leaders, and ensure it is a cohesive and meaningful experience for all participants.
- Create a sense of community & belonging among MMB volunteers, helping to integrate all volunteers into the MMB culture
- Identify and encourage future organizational leaders; nurture and maintain relationships with volunteers and target audiences during recruitment season
- Oversee efforts to demonstrate appreciation to all volunteers to ensure they feel they are a valued part of the Minds Matter Boston’s community
- Manage the organization and planning of our annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration held to honor all of our volunteers
- Create opportunities for volunteers to network and socialize with each other. Oversee volunteer engagement efforts, including managing the Volunteer Engagement managers, by organizing periodic events to encourage relationship-building

Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in education, nonprofit, volunteer management, and/or community engagement preferred
- Strong track record of success in developing volunteer programs and building community partnerships
- Bachelor’s degree required

Compensación
Compensation & Benefits
- $60, 000 salary, dependent on qualifications and experience.

- Minds Matter Boston is a hybrid organization. This position is in person 3 days a week and an additional Thursday of every month.
