Position Description
AAPI NJ seeks dynamic, multilingual community organizers to support community engagement, organizing, and power building in AAPI immigrant communities. This is an exciting opportunity for dynamic, entrepreneurial individuals to join us at a critical time of growth.
Reports to: Director of Organizing
Close Collaborators: Policy/Advocacy and Organizing teams
Primary Responsibilities
- Organizing, Outreach, and Civic Engagement
- Build relationships with individuals and organizations and identify potential partnerships and allies
- Help develop organizing strategies and plans to educate, engage, empower, and mobilize community members.
- Mobilize AAPI community members and partners to be involved in local, state and federal advocacy
- Represent AAPI NJ at community events and stakeholder meetings
- Help develop and coordinate Get Out the Vote efforts in communities with limited English proficiency and AAPI communities across NJ
- Develop content for outreach and community education materials
- Assist with translation work and community review of translations as needed
- Assist with impact tracking and grant reporting
- Training and Community Education
- Support AAPI NJ’s work offering community education for youth and adults on bystander intervention and conflict de-escalation, as well as trainings specifically for the AAPI community on responding to bias and harassment.
- Support AAPI NJ’s work on community education around NJ’s worker benefits and protections, in collaboration with the DOL.
- Support Know Your Rights trainings and case management for individuals with limited English proficiency
- Identify additional needs for community education and develop programs to meet those needs.
- Assist in other organizational programmatic and development activities as needed
Ideal Qualifications
- Multilingual: Must be fluent and comfortable writing and conversing in English and at least one of the following Asian languages: Korean, Chinese, Gujarati, or Hindi
- Strong emotional intelligence and ability to work with diverse communities, groups, and individuals
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and assignments in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to navigate and work well both independently and collaboratively in a startup environment
- Prefer 1-3+ years of related experience and demonstrated commitment to racial justice and intersectional advocacy
- Proficiency in or ability to learn software skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Canva, Slack, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and Gmail).
- Frequent travel within New Jersey required. Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive own vehicle preferred (mileage will be reimbursed).
