About DIG
Development in Gardening (DIG) partners with communities often excluded from traditional development efforts and market investment to build regenerative food systems that grow health, wealth, and belonging. Through long-term partnerships with farmers and community organizations, DIG supports locally rooted solutions that strengthen food security, improve nutrition, and regenerate land.
As DIG grows, we are investing in the operational systems that make this work sustainable, and we are looking for someone to help us build them.
The Opportunity
This is a newly created, hands-on position ideal for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and genuinely energized by building reliable systems in a mission-driven environment. You will work closely with senior leadership to support donor data management, compliance tracking, financial reconciliation, event administration, and board coordination.
Because DIG is small and growing, this role works across several operational areas, priorities evolve and are set collaboratively. Not all functions are active at the same intensity year-round. In a small organization, this role touches many areas of operations, but the core responsibility is ensuring that systems run reliably and information stays organized.
You will be well supported, with regular guidance and feedback from leadership.
This position offers meaningful exposure to how a global nonprofit operates and provides a strong foundation for growth in nonprofit operations, administration, and organizational management.
What Success Looks Like in the First Year
Donor Data & Financial Systems
Maintain the accuracy of DIG's donor CRM (eTapestry), including entering donor records, generating acknowledgements, and preparing reports for leadership and board use. Support monthly reconciliation of donations with QuickBooks in coordination with DIG's external bookkeeper.
Grants & Restricted Funding Tracking
Maintain DIG's grant tracking system, including reporting deadlines, documentation, and submission calendars. Help ensure that grant requirements are organized, monitored, and completed on time.
Events & Field Logistics
Support administrative coordination for DIG events and donor field trips, including registrations, guest lists, vendor documentation, and event planning logistics. DIG hosts approximately 3–4 mid-size events each year and 1 field trip per year.
Compliance & Administrative Operations
Maintain DIG's operational compliance calendar and assist with tracking regulatory filings, charitable registrations, and organizational profiles such as Charity Navigator and Candid. This work is completed in coordination with leadership and external advisors.
Board & Governance Support
Assist with preparation of board and committee materials, maintain governance documentation, and help track board decisions and follow-up actions.
HR & Administrative Operations
Support payroll coordination and benefits administration with external providers. Maintain HR compliance documentation, including W-9s, 1099s, and employee records. Help ensure internal policies and required documentation are kept up to date.
Cross-Team Operations Support
Help strengthen internal workflows across development, finance, programs, and leadership. Support special operational projects, improve internal tracking systems, and help translate priorities into clear, organized workstreams.
Qualifications
Experience in nonprofit administration, program coordination, development operations, or organizational systems is especially relevant. Experience with CRM systems, event coordination, or compliance tracking is helpful but not required.
We encourage you to apply even if your background does not perfectly match every item above. We are looking for thoughtfulness, relevant skills, and a genuine interest in building strong systems in service of mission-driven work.
