The Speech and Language Pathologist role is a 10-month position, which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Speech and Language Pathologists at Capital City:

The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for delivering instruction to identified students as specified in Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and working with inclusion teachers and classroom teachers to provide modifications and accommodations and develop a classroom environment that supports differentiated instruction and student progress. While the SLP has primary responsibility to identified students (see below), they are expected to support the success of all Capital City students. The SLP reports to the Chief Inclusion Officer.

The SLP at Capital City is expected to:

• Deliver specialized instruction to caseload students as specified in student IEPs. The SLP is expected to start service delivery during the first week of school. Be present, timely, and prepared for instructional periods. Notify teachers in advance if you will not be present for class periods or meetings.
• Plan for instruction. This may require researching and developing IEP goal-specific teaching approaches and lessons.
• Keep daily contact notes of work with students. Prepare monthly progress notes to document progress towards IEP goals. Generate finalized monthly service trackers in SEDS to document related service. Maintain personal system of contact notes and ensure progress notes and reports become part of students’ files.
• Conduct assessments to track student progress towards IEP goals at regular intervals.
• Conduct screenings and evaluations of referred students according to a schedule mutually agreed upon with the Directors of Student Services. Adhere to legal timeline requirements for evaluation completion, using SEDS as a guide.
• Provide written progress reports to parents four times per year (November, February, April, June) with information from monthly progress notes.
• Participate in weekly Inclusion Team Meetings with all Inclusion Teachers as determined by the DSS.
• Check-in regularly (at least bi-weekly) with the LEA Director of Special Education to review contact notes and discuss student progress.
• Communicate regularly with inclusion and classroom teachers. Support teachers in providing modifications and supports for students with speech and language needs. Make suggestions and recommendations for instructional delivery.
• Present one-two professional development sessions for entire staff. ▪ Participate in staff development institute held two weeks in August before students return.

Capital City seeks to employ experienced, credentialed service providers. Ideal candidates have a Master’s degree and 2+ years of experience.

Minimum required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and at least one of the following:

• Masters degree in Speech and Language Pathology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or related field
• ASHA certification preferred
• 2 or more years experience as a school-based or youth Speech and Language Pathologist

Additionally strong candidates have:

• Experience working in urban environments with diverse populations
• Experience working with English learners
• Knowledge of SEDS or similar education databases
• Proven ability to work as a member of a team
• Strong leadership capabilities
• A commitment to their own learning and development
• Spanish language proficiency

In addition to the above requirements, related service providers must meet the requirements of all hires at Capital City including a criminal background check and a negative TB test.
