About the Institute for the Fiduciary Standard:

The Institute is a non-profit organization formed in 2011 to promote to benefit investors and society through its research, education and advocacy of the fiduciary standard's importance to investors, our capital markets and the economy.

The fiduciary standard is the standard of care used by registered investment advisers, who are legally bound to serve the best interests of their clients by avoiding conflicts of interests and acting prudently and in good faith. This is as opposed to the more common model of broker/dealers, who frequently recommend investments based on what brings the highest commission, and who are held to a far less stringent legal standard.

What's in it for you (besides the $12/h pay): The Institute for the Fiduciary Standard is a growing force in consumer protection in the financial services industry. Employees of the Institute gain valuable experience in working for a nonprofit in the nation's capital; they gain insight into how a nonprofit operates, and can add this experience to their resume. They can also expect an outstanding recommendation in future if they perform excellent work and demonstrate initiative.
