    The Climate Reality Project was founded by former US Vice President Al Gore with a mission to catalyze a global solution to the climate crisis by making urgent action a necessity across every sector of society. We recruit, train, and mobilize people of all walks of life to work for just climate solutions that speed energy transition worldwide and open the door to a better tomorrow for us all.

    Our global network totals more than 3.8 million people from more than 190 countries and territories. With 11 global branches around the world, we work to support our trained Climate Reality Leaders and network. Our strategy is two-pronged: 1) grow the climate movement and build the political will necessary to adopt policy solutions through our signature trainings around the globe, and 2) harness our ever-expanding network in support of three key areas of focus: reducing emissions, financing a just transition and strengthening international cooperation around climate.

    Position Summary

    The Digital Community Organizing Manager is responsible for managing an exclusive, proprietary, worldwide social networking platform called Reality Hub and utilizing its community by empowering a global network of trained Climate Reality Leader volunteers to engage in meaningful climate action.

    Currently reporting to the Digital Mobilization Senior Manager, this position currently has no direct reports.

    This is a full time, exempt, benefits-eligible, hybrid position. The Climate Reality Project offers a flexible hybrid schedule, with staff working from our office in downtown Washington, DC at least two days per week to enable and encourage collaboration within and among teams. The salary range for role is $75,000-$76,500.

    This position is within a union-represented collective bargaining unit, and specific terms and conditions of employment will be subject to a collective bargaining agreement between Climate Reality and the union.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Manage our online community platform, including managing appropriate vendors to ensure the platform runs with little-to-no downtime, and planning and building new functionality as needed.
    • Act as the primary liaison – with assistance from regional organizers and others – for Climate Reality Leaders and chapter members through the platform, including moderating conversations, responding to questions in the community inbox, forums, and comment sections, and providing general troubleshooting and onboarding services through the platform’s Help Desk.
    • Create and implement community guidelines, policies, and processes for the platform in coordination with the Digital Mobilization Senior Manager and the Legal Department, as appropriate.
    • Develop metrics and report structures on content engagement, resource use, and other metric parameters as they relate to the way Climate Reality Leaders are using the platform and the impact it has on organizational mission and campaigns the platform.
    • Proactively update Climate Reality’s resource library and provide technical assistance to chapters, branches, and national staff by identifying needs for additional in-house resources such as campaign toolkits, recorded trainings, and other digital resources, in collaboration with other teams. This may include creating new resources personally or delegating others to draft new materials.
    • Write regular posts to engage the community, including success stories about our Climate Reality Leaders and chapter members, highlights of global campaign activities and actions to take, and important milestones for the organization.
    • Identify gaps in information, resources, and group activity and ensure relevant staff are effectively providing their department-specific content to the platform, as well as utilizing the platform in their day-to-day work.
    • Coordinate and delegate platform responsibilities and correspondence to the Digital Mobilization Associate and other team members when appropriate.
    • Working with the organization and key stakeholders, build an implement a change management plan to facilitate smooth transitions and minimize disruption for users in the rollout of new tools or programming.
    • Monitor community management trends to ensure platform reflects the latest technological capabilities related to online spaces.
    • Plan and lead periodic live training sessions (e.g., new version features, group admin training, new cohort) and inform the community of any platform updates. Training sessions may be virtual for new and existing users or in-person at US or international Climate Reality Leadership Trainings
    • Work with Information Services department and third-party vendors on periodic requirements analysis, platform integrations, and other technical needs.
    • Manage the relationship and workflow with the vendors on the back-end of the platform to ensure it is functioning as needed to fulfill organizational goals and cybersecurity requirements.
    • Support and contribute to the ongoing improvement of our operations and enrichment of our culture, for example by serving on ad hoc or ongoing working groups, assisting with the onboarding and training of colleagues, and participating in efforts to assess, refine, and strengthen our culture and practices.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills and Abilities

    • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communications skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, with experience managing, analyzing, and presenting data.
    • Expert-level knowledge in managing various community platforms such as social media accounts, Forj or Circle communities, Facebook Groups, Slack workspaces, Discord servers, or other platforms.
    • A team player and people person who builds strong relationships and has the skills to resolve conflict while still maintaining important and effective relationships.?
    • Proven ability to turn ideas into actionable and measurable plans.
    • Ability to give and receive feedback well.?
    • Track record of working effectively across multiple differences (race, gender, age, language, orientation, urban/rural, etc.).?
    • Care deeply about both climate change and environmental justice and want to work to solve the climate crisis and create a healthy and equitable future for all.?
    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer required.
    • This role will require some domestic and international travel

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree—or equivalent experience
    • Between 3-5 years of relevant experience in online community management
    • Experience using Salesforce or another CRM
    • Interest and some experience working with international audiences and content desired.
