    Scope of Position:

    The Medical Advocacy (MA) Program at LSH’s Bilingual Domestic Violence Program (BDVP) uses a comprehensive approach of direct service and training healthcare systems to better respond to domestic violence. Working closely with champions at partner hospitals, the program connects patients in healthcare settings to domestic violence programming at Lutheran Settlement House. Under the supervision of the BDVP Medical Advocacy Supervisor, the Medical Advocacy Program Coordinator is tasked with supporting the expansion of the program by coordinating referrals and case assignments, fielding training and outreach event requests, attending and taking minutes for meetings (team huddles, hospital task force meetings and LSH Research Advisory Board meetings), creating outreach materials, and supervising the Medical Advocacy intern on an as-needed basis.

    Functions and Duties:

    • Attends hospital partner task force meetings and in partnership with MA Supervisor and IPV Specialist on-site at hospital, help to oversee task force meetings to meet the group’s goals and objectives of improving hospital response to domestic violence. Keep organized records of meetings and identify follow-up tasks for attendees.
    • Act as point person for incoming referrals from hospital systems who do not have an assigned IPV Specialist, as well as from overflow referrals from systems with an assigned IPV Specialist and assign cases to IPV Specialist team depending on capacity.
    • Coordinate training and outreach requests from health care professionals in non-partner hospital settings and assign training to IPV Specialist team depending on capacity.
    • Attend and keep organized records for the Bilingual Domestic Violence Program’s quarterly Research Advisory Board.
    • Support MA Supervisor with team huddle by sending agendas and communicating with team on follow-up items.
    • Manage creation of outreach materials to be used in healthcare settings on platforms such as Canva and Microsoft Office.
    • Assist with data management by pulling reports from client database for reports, grant applications, and research projects.
    • Provide coverage on hotline and support to MA referrals as needed.
    • Actively participates in required trainings and supervision in accordance with program and agency guidelines.
    • Supervise the Medical Advocacy intern as needed.
    • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Qualifications:

    • The individual is expected to demonstrate understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and sensitivity to the needs of domestic violence victims and their families.
    • Strong organizational skills and a background in data entry and visual design is required.
    • The ideal candidate is expected to present clear understanding of how-to follow-up with partners, including demonstrating good listening and communication skills, effective problem-solving skills, and must be able to work with a diverse group of individuals.
    • Occasionally staff may be asked to work evening or weekend hours in exchange for flex time.
    • Completion of a state mandated 40-hour domestic violence training and 5 hours of double staffing is required and can be completed upon hiring.
    • This position is on a hybrid schedule, with eight hours work from home and 12 hours onsite.
    • Must be able to attend meetings on Fridays.

    Nivel de Idiomas

    Proficient in English (reading/writing/verbal communication), Bilingual English and Spanish preferred but not required.
