    COLLEGE ACCESS PROGRAM ADVISOR

    About College Visions: Founded in 2004, College Visions is one of the oldest and most comprehensive college success organizations in Rhode Island. Every year, CV empowers 500 first-generation students to pursue their dream of earning a college degree. CV Scholars receive individualized support beginning with the college application process through college graduation. Our vision is that CV Scholars will earn degrees, build meaningful careers, and become our next generation of leaders.

    Summary: The College Access Program (CAP) Advisor is responsible for coaching CV Scholars through the college application process, including coordinating opportunities for students to explore college options, helping students develop strong application materials, securing advantageous financial aid packages, and supporting students’ transition to college. The CAP advisor also supports the execution of other College Access Program elements including workshops, events, Summer Prep, and other special projects.

    Management: The CAP Advisor reports to the College Access Program Director.

    Hours: This is a full-time position. Hours during the school year are Monday-Friday, 10 am-6 pm; Summer hours are Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm.

    Responsibilities

    Student Advising

    • Coach a cohort of CV Scholars through the college exploration and application process via regular one-on-one meetings, including developing college lists, producing essays and resumes, submitting applications, securing advantageous financial aid, and making well-informed college choices
    • Provide admission advocacy for students
    • Collaborate with the program team to deliver college access curriculum, engaging and supporting CV students and their families in the admission process
    • Work to maintain up-to-date knowledge about colleges, scholarship opportunities, and local programs that best serve our student population
    • Keep accurate, detailed advisee records, including contact information, demographics, and program outcomes and enter information into CV’s database on a regular basis

    Events, Workshops, Partnerships, + Program Development

    • Support the coordination and facilitation of CAP events and workshops including college campus trips and admissions representative visits to CV
    • Assist in cultivating relationships with high schools to support student recruitment
    • Collaborate with all program staff to continue to improve the overall student experience
    • Support the Summer Prep program, including student advising, events, and other needs

    Professional Growth

    • Participate in ongoing college access training and seek out external professional development opportunities
    • Engage in ongoing learning regarding best practices and emerging research in the field
    • Strive for excellence, reflect on challenges, and celebrate victories

    Programming, Fundraising, Administration + Other Activities

    • Document events and activities on an ongoing basis
    • Contribute to the development of new strategic initiatives across the organization
    • Support organization fundraising activities as needed
    • Promote CV in Rhode Island and in the college access sector
    • Handle administrative tasks including student data entry, maintenance of records, adherence to financial and HR policies, and upkeep of office space

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree required
    • Deep, well-articulated commitment to CV’s mission and values
    • Experience working with low-income, first-generation students
    • Ability to foster strong relationships with students and families
    • Energetic, positive, flexible
    • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
    • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines
    • Strong writing and communication skills
    • Fluency in Spanish or a second language is a plus

    Compensation/benefits: The salary for this position is $45,000. CV offers generous time off, a hybrid work schedule, medical/dental/vision, retirement match, and other benefits.
