    Position Description

    Juma Ventures (Juma), an award-winning youth workforce development nonprofit organization, seeks a Director of Institutional Giving to lead our institutional giving strategy, increasing financial and non-financial resources to support its critical youth work.

    The Director of Institutional Giving is a senior leader on Juma's Development Team, reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer. In partnership with the CDO and CEO, the Director is responsible for developing and executing Juma's overall institutional giving strategy, focused on maximizing and growing revenue from corporations, foundations, and government entities to advance Juma's mission, vision, and strategic priorities.

    The Director serves as a key frontline fundraiser, managing a portfolio of 30 corporate, foundation, and government prospects totaling $2–3M annually. This leader works collaboratively and transparently with the Chief Development Officer, CEO, board members, and cross-functional staff to advance Juma’s fundraising goals, deepen funder relationships, and create meaningful impact in the lives of young people nationwide.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Strategy & Leadership

    • In partnership with the CEO and CDO, develops and executes Juma's national institutional giving program, driving a proactive funder engagement strategy and supporting the entire development team in achieving ambitious revenue goals
    • Supervises the creation and execution of Juma's annual grants plan, including multi-year forecasting and pipeline development
    • Manages and expands Juma's network of institutional funders through proactive outreach and prospect research, ensuring the pipeline meets organizational funding needs and goals
    • Prepares the CDO and relevant staff members for Board, committee, and Advisory Board presentations, and attends and presents directly when needed.

    Frontline Fundraising

    • Serves as lead relationship manager for top institutional funders, managing a portfolio of 30 corporate, foundation, and government prospects through all stages of the gift cycle, totaling $2–3M annually
    • Develops and executes individualized cultivation strategies for each funder in the portfolio, identifying the right engagement touchpoints, timing, and messaging to deepen relationships and maximize giving potential
    • Prepares and delivers compelling presentations, briefings, and pitches for funder cultivation meetings, site visits, and stewardship engagements, in partnership with the CDO and CEO as appropriate
    • Develops compelling grant proposals, reports, and stewardship communications that reflect Juma's voice, mission, and impact
    • Collaborates with site-based Development Directors to maximize grant opportunities, including managing multi-site proposals and coordinating local funder relationships
    • Actively engages in the broader philanthropic and civic community, attending RFP information sessions, government agency convenings, funder briefings, and community events to stay abreast of emerging funding opportunities and build Juma's visibility among institutional funders
    • Monitors the institutional funding landscape, including foundation priorities, corporate social responsibility trends, and government funding cycles, and proactively identifies and pursues new prospects aligned with Juma's mission and strategic priorities

    Operations & Infrastructure

    • Manages day-to-day operations of the institutional giving department, including financial oversight by supporting monthly reconciliation and contributed revenue reporting
    • Oversees development systems and infrastructure, with a focus on Salesforce to ensure accurate tracking of donor reporting requirements, deadlines, and action items
    • Works with the Director of Learning & Evaluation to track program outcomes, collaborates with Programs and Enterprise teams to collect youth impact stories, and partners with the Finance team to meet financial reporting requirements

    Team Management & Training

    • Supervises and mentors one direct report, a Senior Grants Manager, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture
    • Provides coaching, professional development, and performance management support
    • Designs and delivers training for the broader development team and, when necessary, program leadership on best-in-class institutional giving practices, including grant writing, funder research, prospect cultivation, and portfolio management
    • Develops and maintains a shared knowledge base of resources, templates, and tools to support consistent and high-quality grant writing across all four Juma markets
    • Facilitates regular learning opportunities, such as workshops, lunch-and-learns, and one-on-one coaching, to build institutional giving capacity across site-based development staff
    • Stays current on trends, best practices, and emerging opportunities in institutional fundraising and disseminates relevant insights to the development team

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of seven years of fundraising experience preferably in direct service organizations
    • Management experience and success in a sophisticated and complex fundraising environment
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines
    • Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills
    • Previous experience with Salesforce/CRM databases, strongly preferred
    • Self-starter, motivated, and able to take initiative in all situations; ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and inclusive environment.

    • Must be willing to work part-time from the San Francisco office, attend all funder meetings in person if required, and travel for fundraising events and meetings as necessary.

    Starting Salary: $120,000 – $145,000

    Classification:Full-time, Exempt

    Hours/Week: 40 hours ; Hybrid (2 days/week in office)

    Education: Bachelor’s degree required

    Years of Experience: Minimum of seven years of fundraising experience preferably in direct service organizations
