Seasonal Camp Supervisor

Are you passionate about creating safe, supportive learning environments for young people? Seattle JazzED is seeking a skilled and youth-centered Seasonal Camp Supervisor (Safety & Operations Lead) for our 2026 Summer Jazz Camps serving students in grades 4–12. The Camp Supervisor serves as the primary on-site point of contact for families and ensures that camp programming operates in a structured, accessible, and well-coordinated environment.

This is a non-teaching role focused on youth supervision, safety, and program logistics. Instruction is led by professional Teaching Artists; a background in music is not required for this position.

Each summer, we serve students in grades 4–12 with camp programs ranging from beginner instrumental instruction for students with no prior experience to advanced improvisation and ensemble training, leadership development opportunities, and public performance experiences.

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this role, you will serve as the primary on-site point of contact for families and support the daily supervision, safety, and movement of students throughout camp programming.

Working alongside Lead Teaching Artists, Assistant Teaching Aides, Interns, and Student Ambassadors, you will help ensure that all camps operate in a structured, accessible, and well-coordinated environment.

This position reports directly to the Programs Manager and does not have any direct staff supervisory duties.

SCHEDULE

Start Date: June 22, 2026

Camp weeks run from 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM, Mon – Fri and are structured as follows:

• Jazz Lab Camp & Ambassador Training: July 6–10
• Femme Jazz Camp & Ambassador Training: July 13–17
• Second Line Camp: July 20–25
• Connections Camp: July 27–31
• Foundations (South): August 3–7
• Foundations (North): August 10–14

Additionally, the supervisor is required for the following training and performance times:

• Onboarding and training: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Mon – Fri, June 22 – July 3
• Second Line Summer Camp Torchlight Parade on Saturday, July 25, 2026 (all-day)

Seattle JazzED strongly prefers one individual who can serve in this capacity for the full duration of the summer camp season.

WORK LOCATION

Summer camps will take place at the following sites:

• Seattle JazzED (South Lake Union – Primary Site) – all trainings and camps from July 6-31
• Lake Washington Girls Middle School (Beacon Hill – South Seattle) – camps August 3-7
• Billings Middle School (Pinehurst – North Seattle) – camps August 10-14

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Safety & Supervision

• Provide active supervision of students throughout camp programming
• Maintain daily attendance and dismissal logs
• Ensure all students are safely picked up and signed out each day
• Support safe transitions between classrooms, snacks, and rehearsal spaces
• Maintain parent contact logs for emergency communication

Emergency Response & Student Support

• Act as the lead in providing first aid response
• Follow Seattle JazzED safety protocols for medical incidents, behavioral escalations, or emergencies
• Support positive youth engagement through developmentally responsive supervision
• Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure camp environments are welcoming, accessible, and supportive for all learners

Program Operations & Logistics

• Manage student movement and daily program flow
• Serve as the primary operational point of contact for families during camp hours
• Support logistical coordination for student arrival, supervision, and dismissal
• Assist with supervision, student movement, and family communication during the Second Line Summer Camp Torchlight Parade on July 25, 2026
• Support safe transitions, student movement, and parent/guardian reunification procedures during culminating performances
• Maintain accurate attendance and dismissal records to ensure all students are released to authorized caregivers
• Foster a nurturing and structured environment for youth ages 9–18

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

• Experience working with youth in camp, school, after-school enrichment, or community-based settings
• Experience supervising students in group settings
• Experience supporting youth supervision during field trips, performances, or off-site events
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
• Current Red Cross adult and pediatric First Aid and CPR certifications (or ability to obtain/renew certification prior to start date)
• Personal vehicle or ability to transport materials for satellite camps

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• Early Childhood Education background
• Camp Counselor or Camp Director experience
• Experience with after-school enrichment programs and camp field trip management
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Youth Development, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Preference will be given to applicants with experience managing student supervision and dismissal procedures during off-site or performance-based youth programming. Exceptional candidates without post-secondary enrollment may be considered if they have significant prior experience in camp counseling or youth supervision.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, legally authorized to work in the United States and able to pass a background check upon hire.

COMPENSATION

• Part-time non-exempt position with a salary of $35.00 per hour; estimated seasonal earnings of ~$7,200
• Sick leave accrued at 1 hour per 40 hours worked per Seattle’s Sick and Safe Time Ordinance
