    This is a stipend volunteer position with a service program. Corps Members receive free, furnished housing and utilities as a part of the residential program. Corps Members also receive a monthly travel allowance.

    Start your Jewish social justice journey with Avodah's Jewish Service Corps, an immersive service year program running September 2026 - August 2027 for emerging changemakers ages 21-26.

    Check out these descriptions of available New Orleans roles:

    • Defend the right to stable housing as a Tenant Advocate at Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS), supporting the groundbreaking Right to Counsel program in New Orleans.
    • Support the mission of First 72+ to break the cycle of incarceration as a Program Coordinator. The First 72+ is a New Orleans-based organization led by formerly incarcerated individuals dedicated to fostering independence through housing, employment, and community engagement.
    • Foster environmental stewardship and community resilience as a Park Ranger at Sankofa CDC, supporting the revitalization of New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward.
    • Empower the next generation of global citizens as a Education & Community Engagement Service Member at Morris Jeff Community School, where you will provide vital academic and operational support to foster freedom and possibility for all students.
    • Champion access to justice as a Client Services and Program Manager at the Loyola Law Clinic & Gillis Long Poverty Law Center, where you will serve as a vital link between low-income individuals and essential legal representation.
    • Defend the rights of immigrant communities as an Immigrant Advocate at Immigration Services and Legal Advocacy (ISLA), where you will provide holistic support across legal, development, and community engagement functions.
    • Expand access to critical healthcare as the Dental Health Educator/Media and Outreach Coordinator. at EXCELth, a health center dedicated to serving vulnerable populations across Louisiana.
    • Foster community impact and youth empowerment as a Volunteer Coordinator at Covenant House New Orleans, which provides love, respect, and comprehensive support to young people experiencing homelessness.

    Jewish Service Corps Members spend a year serving full-time at a non-profit in Chicago, New Orleans, New York, or Washington, DC while living and learning in a justice-oriented Jewish community. As a Corps Member, you’ll:

    Jews of Color (JOCs) can also opt into additional supports for their Avodah experience, n including dedicated mentorship with a JOC leader, connections to local JOC-led organizations,1:1 support from Avodah staff members, and opportunities to connect with other JOC Corps Members.

    Compensación

    Corps Members receive health coverage for duration of service year in addition to access to Avodah's Mental Health Advisor during program year. Exit stipends are provided at end of year.
