Position
Global Energy Monitor is seeking an experienced Researcher with Chinese/English fluency to join our Renewables & Other Power team. The Renewables and Other Power team publishes global asset-level data on solar, wind, hydro, nuclear, geothermal, and bioenergy through our Power Trackers. This position will primarily support the work of the Global Solar Power Tracker and the Global Wind Power Tracker. The Global Solar Power Tracker is a worldwide dataset of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal facilities. It covers all operating solar farm phases with capacities of 1 megawatt (MW) or more and all announced, pre-construction, construction, and shelved projects with capacities greater than 20 MW. The Global Wind Power Tracker (GWPT) is a worldwide dataset of utility-scale, on and offshore wind facilities. It includes wind farm phases with capacities of 10 megawatts (MW) or more. Research primarily involves conducting internet searches and reviewing publicly-accessible online material for information (e.g. project start year, name, operating status, employment data, geospatial coordinates) about wind and solar farms in Chinese speaking countries. The Researcher may also support other GEM projects as needed.
GEM’s wind and solar data are used by climate movement advocates, academic researchers, journalists, and government officials worldwide to advance a sustainable energy future.
The Challenge
According to the Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC), we have less than a decade to make massive and unprecedented changes in the global economy to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. To meet that challenge,
Global Energy Monitor is creating trackers and other tools to provide detailed information on energy facilities, sponsors, and financing.
