    The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) is seeking a Communications Administrative Associate in our Charlottesville, VA office. This individual will join our Communications team and report to the Director of Communications. The Communications Administrative Associate will provide administrative, project management, and finance support for the communications team, including working closely with the program communications and digital teams to assist with media tracking, website management, and event planning and coordination.     SELC has a hybrid work model that offers employees flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week. This is a full-time and non-exempt position.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Provide administrative support, including scheduling, travel, and meeting planning, and serving as the liaison across the communications team.
    • Provide executive assistance to the Communications Director, Director of Digital Strategy, and Director of Program Communications.
    • Serve as the point of contact for the communications team budget, including coordinating the budget development process, tracking expenses, processing invoices, and reconciling expense accounts. Provides training and budget support to colleagues and acts as a liaison to the finance team.
    • Provide administrative support using Monday.com to help develop, coordinate, and maintain project management systems, and provide training and support for team members using the platform.
    • Manage media engagement and monitoring platform, assist with media tracking, researching and organizing press lists, tracking and compiling press reports, and distributing press materials.
    • Manage team media subscriptions; compile weekly press round-up for all SELC staff; and manage logistics and materials for press events.
    • Help with general website administration, review, and management, including adding and editing website content and managing online resources and content requests from staff.
    • Work closely with team leadership to plan and staff in-person and virtual events, including an annual team retreat and external SELC programming and media events.
    • Assist the team with in-person and virtual event management and staffing, including materials management and shipping.
    • Coordinate communications team hiring processes, including interview scheduling and team onboarding.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Minimum five years of administrative or related experience, preferably including communications.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; capable of managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build productive relationships and collaborate effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
    • Ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment; self-motivated and proactive.
    • Skilled and comfortable with a range of tech platforms and familiarity with collaboration tools such as Microsoft SharePoint, project management systems, and media engagement and monitoring tools.
    • Experience coordinating budget tracking and familiarity with budget management.
    • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
    • Occasional travel and evening and weekend work may be required for event support.

    Compensation & Benefits:

    SELC offers salaries competitive with other leading environmental nonprofits nationally and provides an excellent benefits package. The wage range for this full-time and nonexempt position is $33.66/hour - $39.04/hour, based on experience. The annualized equivalent is approximately $70,000 – $81,200, assuming full-time hours.     SELC is a PSLF (Public Service Loan Forgiveness) eligible employer.

    All employees are required to reside in our region. SELC will provide relocation reimbursement up to a specific dollar amount for those relocating at least 50 miles from their current primary residence.

    Disability Insurance: SELC offers short-term and long-term disability insurance at no cost to employees. Disability insurance covers a portion of salary during periods of extended leave due to injury or disability.

    Employee Assistance Program (EAP): The EAP provides employees and their family members with support services when dealing with life’s struggles.

    Parental Leave: SELC employees are entitled to 12 weeks of paid parental leave following childbirth or adoption. The leave can be taken up to one year after childbirth or adoption and can be broken up in any manner that best accommodates the needs of the family. Once available parental leave has been used, employees have the additional option of requesting to return to work on a reduced schedule for up to 12 weeks.
