    The Literacy Lab currently operates in the following locations: Washington, DC; Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; Atlanta, GA; Cincinnati, OH; and Milwaukee, WI. Since 2009, The Literacy Lab has provided evidence-based literacy instruction to more than 40,000 children to develop early literacy skills.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Fellow Leader role is a new leadership and administrative pathway across all regions. A successful candidate for this position would have an interest in organizational and/or program management and peer mentorship. This role will tentatively be part-time (25-28 hours per week), and the Fellow Leader will not serve students in addition to their responsibilities. This is a one-year position. This position has hybrid work flexibility, with a blend of in-person work and remote work. The Fellow Leader will work with the Director and/or Manager in the region to determine a schedule that includes some availability when Fellows are not at their school site (i.e., 1 PM - 5 PM). This position may require out-of-town travel of approximately 5-10 nights per year for meetings, training, staff events, and conferences (when permitted).

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • In partnership with the Impact Director and/or Impact Manager in the region, supports and builds relationships with a diverse and highly impactful cohort of Fellows.
    • Establishes a regular cadence of office hours and/or peer meetups to provide additional support to a group of Fellows.
    • Helps the Impact Director and/or Manager in the region with planning and executing Professional Learning Groups (PLGs) and training sessions.
    • Helps the Impact Director and/or Manager in the region with ordering, organizing, inventorying, storing, and distributing gear and program supplies.
    • Helps Fellows with tri-annual student benchmarking administration using the Preschool Early Literacy Indicators (PELI).
    • Monitors and manages the completion of timesheets.
    • Helps the Impact Director and/or Manager in the region with special projects within the region and across the organization when opportunities arise and availability permits.
    • Participates in professional growth and development activities to grow management autonomy.
    • Helps the Impact Director and/or Manager in the region, as well as national staff members, with the recruitment of a diverse team of highly engaged Fellows.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES & SKILLS:

    • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010 (or later) software, especially Word and Excel, and Google Suite.
    • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in Education, Workforce Development, Nonprofit Management, Learning and Development, Adult Learning, or 1-2 years of education in one of these or a related field.

    Preferred Competencies & Skills:

    • Experience as a Literacy Lab Tutor or Fellow (strongly preferred).
    • Experience working in education, nonprofit, or related fields. (preferred).
    • Experience working with Washington, DC schools/school districts (preferred).
    • Some college education (preferred).

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must be 18 years of age or older by three to three and a half weeks before your start date
    • Must have at least a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent by your start date
    • Must be either a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
    • Must be able to meet the USCIS employment eligibility requirements
    • Must pass mandatory pre-service background checks, including FBI, State of Service, State of Residence, National Sex Offender Public Website, and required school/district checks
    • Speak, read, and write American English proficiently to fluently
    • Interest in education, specifically helping young children develop early language and literacy skills
    • Ability to connect and identify with students
    • Dedication to community service
    • Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate online systems and email
    • Strong planning and time management skills, with an energetic, results-oriented, student-focused style
    • Strong capacity to be flexible, remain calm, and be positive in varied, sometimes challenging circumstances and high-pressure environments
    • Consistent follow-through and strong personal standards of excellence, ethics, and integrity
    • Participate in ongoing training and other Literacy Lab events and meetings
    • Ability to accept and incorporate constructive feedback from Impact Staff, Site Staff, and other diverse personalities who work in the same space
    • Participate in ongoing training and other Literacy Lab events and meetings
    • Travel, as necessary
    • All other duties as assigned by Impact staff
