    Position Overview

    The Deputy Director is a senior member of CASW’s executive leadership team and is responsible for providing strategic operational oversight and organizational leadership across the agency’s multi-site youth development programs. This role focuses on compliance management, risk mitigation, human resources oversight, and operational systems to ensure programs operate effectively, safely, and in alignment with funder requirements and best practices.

    The Deputy Director works closely with the Executive Director, program leadership, and internal teams to support the organization’s mission, ensure high-quality programming, and maintain strong internal controls and accountability.

    Key Responsibilities

    Risk Management & Organizational Policies

      • Develop, implement, and maintain agency-wide policies related to participant safety, confidentiality, data protection, mandated reporting, and incident response.
      • Ensure consistent application of organizational policies across all program sites.
      • Monitor organizational risk and recommend operational improvements to reduce exposure and strengthen safeguards for participants and staff.

    Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

      • Oversee compliance with all applicable federal, state, and city regulations impacting youth development and afterschool programs, including requirements related to:
      • DYCD-funded programs (COMPASS, SONYC, Beacon, Cornerstone)
      • ACS - Family Enrichment Center (W.H.I.N)
      • NYC Department of Health, Department of Education, FDNY, and OCFS
      • Coordinate and manage responses to inspections, audits, corrective action plans, and monitoring visits.
      • Maintain compliance calendars, reporting timelines, and documentation systems.
      • Serve as the internal point of contact for compliance-related questions and operational escalations.

    Human Resources & Employment Operations

      • Provide leadership and oversight for HR operations, including hiring processes, employee discipline, performance management, investigations, and separations.
      • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment regulations in collaboration with HR staff.
      • Support the development, implementation, and enforcement of employee handbooks, workplace policies, and disciplinary procedures.
      • Advise leadership on employee relations matters, workplace accommodations, leave administration, and required reporting protocols.
      • Standardize HR systems and practices across all program sites.

    Operations & Program Support

      • Support the Executive Director in overseeing agency-wide operations and internal systems.
      • Partner with program leadership to address operational challenges, site readiness, compliance needs, and risk mitigation strategies.
      • Assist in developing and refining procedures related to daily operations, trips, emergencies, and incident response.
      • Promote cross-departmental coordination to ensure consistency, efficiency, and accountability across multiple locations.

    Leadership & Strategic Support

      • Serve as a strategic operational advisor to the Executive Director, senior leadership team, and Program Directors.
      • Participate in leadership meetings, planning sessions, and internal briefings as needed.
      • Support organizational planning, policy development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
      • Mentor and support managers and directors in making compliance-informed and mission-aligned decisions.

    Qualifications

      • Master’s Degree required (Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Education, Social Work, Human Resources, or a related field preferred).
      • Experience working in youth-serving organizations or highly regulated environments strongly preferred.
      • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-site organization.
      • Strong judgment, discretion, and professional communication skills.
      • Bi-lingual preferred (English, Spanish)

    Compensación

    403(b) plan, health insurance through EmblemHealth, 2 week yearly vacation, 5 personal days, 56 paid sick hours. Vacation, sick, and personal days refresh each fiscal year beginning July 1st. Public Service Loan Forgiveness certified.
