Description: MHP seeks a self-motivated, entrepreneurial and passionate individual to serve as the
manager of the forthcoming Long Branch Main Street. The Main Street Manager will guide local
revitalization efforts in the Long Branch neighborhood of Silver Spring, Maryland by coordinating activities across four key areas: Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization. Additionally, the Main Street Manager will serve as the central contact for the Main Street Program. The manager will develop and maintain a deep knowledge of the local business landscape of the Long Branch Main Street corridor, relevant policy issues, technical assistance programs, and execute upon the approved strategic plan. The role involves significant communication, collaboration, and strategic planning within the community.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
Programming:
- Plan and oversee logistics for all event programming within the Long Branch Main Street.
- Develop new initiatives and activities that improve quality of life within the Long Branch Main Street.
- Implementing small business support programming (e.g. technical assistance, educational resources,
accessing grant/loan opportunities).
Relationships:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with business owners in the Long Branch Main Street
corridor.
- Partner with the Long Branch Main Street Advisory Board for strategic planning and program
development.
- Advocate for vision of the Long Branch Main Street.
- Collaborate with community leaders and other local organizations to engage the public in decisionmaking for the Main Street.
- Maintain and grow the Main Street’s volunteer program.
- Interact with staff of the Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development.
Data Collection and Reporting:
- Work with MHP’s Director of Policy & Neighborhood Development to establish measurable goals to track progress in the Long Branch Main Street.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of Main Street business information.
- Ensure that data is gathered, stored, and accessible to MHP staff and consultants interacting with Main Street businesses.
- Report on the impacts, achievements, and expenses of the Main Street program to the Director of Policy & Neighborhood Development and Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development
- Ensuring compliance with Letter of Agreement with the Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development, including: site visits, training and attendance at the national Main Street conference.
Communications:
- Oversee internal and external communications regarding the Main Street program, including its webpage, social media, newsletter, print and online publications.
- Develop and maintain communications plan, schedule, and editorial calendar, to include regular outreach to local and regional audiences through other organizations and publications.
Fundraising:
- Fundraise for Main Street activities in partnership with the Director of Policy & Neighborhood Development.
- Explore opportunities to solicit private and public-sector support, in the form of grants, gifts,
donations, and contracts.
- Build relationships with donors and donor groups who work in areas related to MHP’s mission and initiatives.
- Develop a plan to encourage individual giving to the MHP and the Long Branch Main Street.
- Identify sponsorship opportunities to support Main Street events and programs and collaborate with MHP staff on submitting grant proposals.
Education/experience requirements:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree with 3+ years experience in one of the following areas: commercial revitalization, urban planning, small business development, economic development, community organizing, fundraising or other area with transferable skills.
- Knowledge of Montgomery County, Maryland and the Long Branch neighborhood of Silver Spring is desirable but not required.
- Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, creative, adaptable, and innovative approach to planning.
- Bilingual candidates preferred, especially Spanish language skills.
- Strong writing skills, meeting facilitation, media and verbal communication
- Experience managing interns a plus
- Excellent interpersonal skills, outgoing and energetic
- Demonstrated interpersonal and technical skills, including:
- Design and use spreadsheets, word processing, presentation, web design, and other software.
- Ability to read and update a budget and manage resources according to the assigned budget.
- Knowledge of project management and CRM systems preferred.
- Ability to communicate easily, respectfully, and professionally with stakeholders of all ages, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds is required.
Job Type: Full-time; Hybrid - 4 days/week in-office (business visits, events, meetings) 1 day/week remote. This role will regularly traverse the Main Street corridor to meet with business owners and maintain a presence.
Compensation: Salary will be based on relevant experience, range $80,000 - $90,000, annual equivalent. MHP offers a competitive benefits package including healthcare programs, flexible spending accounts, 403(b)retirement match, and paid time off.
