Position Summary

FSLA Status: Non-Exempt

Supervisor: Senior Meal Program Manger

Hourly range: $26.00 - $29.25

Location: Seattle, WA

This individual will coordinate the operations of HIP’s Senior Community Meal Program, which is a part of Lake City Senior Days at the Lamb of God Church. The coordinator will primarily focus on the community dining and delivery aspects of the program. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with a passion for feeding people, especially seniors, and the skills to coordinate a team of volunteers and interns.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Lead interns and volunteers in the serving and cleanup of community dining meals
• Lead the volunteer coordination and logistical support of delivering meals
• Organize and submit data and paperwork used for internal and external reporting and recordkeeping
• Support the evaluation and continued improvement of meal service
• Support food ordering including direct-from-farm partnerships and contracts
• Support auxiliary programs like nutrition education and Guest Chef programming
• Coordinate with fellow program staff to incorporate food donations to reduce food waste
• Contribute to newsletters, social media, and outreach activities
• Ensure the safe handling of food by complying with local health and safety standards
• Create a dynamic and welcoming environment for all volunteers and program participants
• Drive the HIP van to deliver food and supplies
• Set and achieve annual goals that are in line with HIP’s current strategic plan
• Participate in regular staff meetings, one-on-ones, and other HIP events
• Additional related duties as assigned

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• Volunteer coordination and mentorship experience preferred
• Lived experience or demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, including program participants, staff, volunteers, and community partners
• De-escalation skills and an earnest interest in working with individuals from a trauma-informed viewpoint
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to take multiple perspectives into account
• Strong skills in space efficiency, organization, and time management, both in and out of the kitchen
• Creativity in problem solving on the fly
• Willingness to learn and comply with food safety and sanitation rules
• Passionate about food and addressing issues of hunger
• Committed to social justice, anti-racism, and the process of ongoing unlearning and relearning

Requirements

• Comfortable regularly working in a kitchen or other spaces that can get hot
• Comfortable regularly working in a kitchen or other spaces that can get loud
• Comfortable lifting up to 40 pounds on a regular basis
• Comfortable standing and remaining active for an 8-hour period
• Comfortable standing or sitting at a desk for an 8-hour period
• Comfortable reaching, bending, and/or kneeling repeatedly
• Pass the Washington State Patrol background check (paid for by employer)
• Have or obtain a current Washington State Food Worker Card (paid for by employer)
• Have basic computer proficiency, including MS Word, Excel, and the Google Suite
