Position Summary
The Director of Resident Life is responsible for cultivating and maintaining a healthy, accountable, and supportive residential community across Dismas House homes. This role focuses on the day-to-day resident experience, staff guidance, and overall culture of the homes—ensuring that each space reflects Dismas values of dignity, belonging, and self-determination.
This is a leadership role that balances relationship-building with structure, accountability, and operational consistency.
Key Responsibilities
Residential Culture & Community
- Foster a positive, respectful, and accountable living environment for all residents
- Support residents in navigating community living, conflict, and shared responsibility
- Lead and model community standards, ensuring consistency across all homes
- Guide restorative approaches to conflict and conduct issues when appropriate
Staff Leadership & Support
- Supervise House Managers and residential staff
- Provide coaching, guidance, and accountability to ensure strong staff performance
- Support staff in maintaining appropriate boundaries and professional communication
- Assist in hiring, onboarding, and training residential staff
Resident Engagement & Oversight
- Maintain regular presence in homes and build strong relationships with residents
- Support implementation of resident phases, expectations, and leadership opportunities
- Partner with case management staff to ensure alignment between programming and residential life
- Monitor overall resident well-being and community dynamics
Operations & Compliance
- Ensure homes meet safety, cleanliness, and operational standards
- Support implementation of policies, procedures, and documentation practices
- Participate in incident response and problem-solving as needed
- Coordinate with leadership on capacity, transitions, and house needs
On-Call & Crisis Support
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support residential needs
- Respond to urgent situations with professionalism, clarity, and sound judgment
Qualifications
- Experience working with justice-impacted individuals, recovery communities, or similar populations preferred
- Demonstrated understanding of restorative justice principles, including balancing compassion with accountability
- Strong belief in the inherent dignity and worth of every person
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Ability to navigate conflict with clarity, consistency, and fairness
- Experience supervising staff or leading teams
- Commitment to community-centered, values-driven work
Compensation & Schedule
- Full-time position
- Salary range: $55,000–$63,000 (based on experience)
- Benefits eligible (health, PTO, retirement as available)
- Some evenings, weekends, and on-call responsibilities required
