    Descripción

    Middle States’ Purpose and Vision

We are here to inspire wise change in schools. Our vision is to become the source for school

leaders transforming themselves and their schools.

Purpose and Character of the Role

Governance Mastery is among Middle States’ most powerful levers for achieving our purpose to

inspire wise change in schools. It is also one of our most important growth initiatives.

The EE Ford Foundation has awarded Middle States a grant to expand the reach of Governance

Mastery. We are looking for well-connected leaders who can bring Governance Mastery directly

to the boards that need it most.

    A Governance Mastery Consultant:

    1. Enrolls independent school boards in the Endorsement in Governance Mastery.
    2. Facilitates governance workshops.
    3. Evaluate those boards’ completion of the endorsement.

Ideal candidates will have strong governance and / or head of school experience. In addition,

candidates should have strong existing relationships in the Greater Philadelphia and New York

City areas. (Note: the role is not limited to these geographies.)

You will report to the President of Middle States.

    General Duties

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and manage a pipeline of prospective boards for Governance Mastery.
    • Conduct outreach (email, calls, meetings) and guide prospects through helpful steps.
    • Facilitate Governance Mastery workshops (hybrid and / or in-person).
    • Maintain contact information and a simple pipeline report.
    • Provide monthly activity summaries: wins, losses, risks, and most of all... lessons learned!
    • Nurture relationships with referral sources, especially by tracking introductions.

    Expectations for Performance

    • Exercise strong attention to detail.
    • Exercise strong writing and editing skills.
    • Practice strong interpersonal skills.
    • Ask lots of questions and challenge conventional wisdom in a helpful way.
    • Anticipate problems and take initiative to solve them, often creatively.
    • Demonstrate high tolerance for ambiguity and uncertainty.
    • Lean on a high level of self-motivation and a strong work ethic.
    • View diversity in teams as potential superpowers.
    • Be willing to learn a lot. Understand that failure is an essential precursor to some of the most important lessons MSA will learn.

This position is remote, with availability required for in-person requests for board facilitation workshops. The contracted role begins immediately and will conclude June 30, 2026 unless both parties wish to extend.
