Summary:
The IT AV Specialist is responsible for maintaining and supporting Wende Museum’s information technology and audiovisual systems and support both day-to-day operations and special projects. This role provides technical assistance to staff, manages hardware and software infrastructure, and oversees network performance, and security. The specialist installs, operates and maintains AV equipment for exhibitions, programs, and presentations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
IT
- Maintain security camera system including technical support and troubleshooting
- Recommend, procure, and set up new equipment
- Manage IPs
- Manage User Permissions
- Manage VPN remote access for users
- Create email addresses for new users, manage email system, and removal
- Ordering supplies for printers
AV
- Attend to AV needs for select programs and presentations
- Handle AV set up and instruction guides for all artworks that require AV support
- Support the maintenance and day-to-day operations of running audiovisual exhibitions
- Transporting, setting up, and installing media equipment and audiovisual support tools, including speakers, monitors, cameras, digital projectors, projector mounting hardware, media players, amplifiers, speakers, HDBaseT transmitters and receivers, flat screen monitors, and flatscreen monitor mounting hardware
- Knowledge of different video and audio cables including, but not limited to HDMI, SDI, DVI, VGA, DisplayPort, Mini Display, RCA, XLR, 1/8” Mini, Serial port, and Cat 6
- Setting up and performing electrical wiring, programming, according to layout diagrams and schedules.
- Running tests on videos, audio, and signals and troubleshooting any problems that arise.
- Carrying out any cleaning, maintenance, or repairs on audiovisual equipment.
- Assists with care, maintenance and tracking of the museum's A/V equipment.
Other Responsibilities:
- Make general updates to website
- Responsible for creating a better system to organize photos on our server
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in IT support, network administration, or AV technology.
- Experience working in a museum, arts, nonprofit, or educational environment preferred.
- Familiarity with both Windows and MacOS operating systems, cloud-based platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Office 365), and network security protocols.

- Ability to explain technical issues to non-technical staff in clear, supportive language.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Familiarity with audiovisual installation, wiring, and maintenance.
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality regarding user data and system security.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (e.g., moving AV equipment).
- Must be able to climb ladders, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces when installing or maintaining equipment.
- Manual dexterity to handle wiring, tools, and small technical components.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support special programs or exhibitions.
