    Job Title: Facilities Technician

    Part-Time (20-24 hours a week, variable hours and possible nights and weekends), 12-Month Position, Role Level 1

    Reports To: Director of School Operations

    Supervisory Responsibilities: No

    YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is a tuition-free, public charter high school, with a singular focus on supporting youth aged 17-20 who have been pushed out of traditional schools. During our 1-year alternative program, Youthbuild facilitates a warm, loving culture that uses a variety of structures to build community, such as a restorative-justice approach to discipline, weekly community meetings, and school-wide service projects. Students are empowered to attain their high school diploma and vocational certifications, while receiving unconditional support by the staff around them.     The Opportunity:

    The Facilities Technician is tasked with the day-to-day maintenance, upkeep, and safe operation of the YouthBuild’s new 28 million dollar building. The Facilities Technician maintains the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC as well as provides routine equipment servicing, parts replacement, grounds work and general repairs. We are looking for a technician to possess the skills to ensure that the school building is maintained in safe, operating, beautiful condition and report any facilities related issues to the School Operations Director. This part time position may require the technician to report to the school building outside their normal work hours to respond to emergencies, snow removal and additional maintenance related issues.

    • 3 years of building maintenance experience or related construction experience.
    • The physical ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift at least 50 pounds.

    Requirements

    What You’ll Do:

    You will…

    • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as fixing leaks, replacing light bulbs, and repairing minor plumbing or electrical issues.
    • Conduct basic repairs on school furniture, equipment, fixtures etc.
    • Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC systems and ensure classroom environments are comfortable.
    • Perform minor painting, patching, and carpentry as needed.
    • Assist with setting up and tearing down for events, including moving furniture and equipment.
    • Ensure hallways, classrooms, and common areas are clean, safe, and well-organized.
    • Handle minor groundskeeping tasks, such as clearing walkways of debris and shovel snow, apply salt to walkways, and ensure safe access during inclement weather.
    • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify potential hazards or maintenance needs.
    • Monitor and maintain building security systems, such as locks, doors, and alarm systems.
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including fire codes and emergency exit procedures.
    • Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment needed for facility maintenance. Communicate inventory needs with the Director of School Operations.
    • Maintain records of maintenance work completed and report to the Director of School Operations.
    • Follow school policies, safety guidelines, and building codes in all tasks.
    • Respond to maintenance requests submitted by the facilities coordinator and communicate effectively with your direct supervisor regarding larger facility concerns.
    • Work with vendors or contractors for specialized repairs or large-scale maintenance projects.
    • Respond to urgent facility issues 24/7, such as water leaks, power outages, or safety concerns.
    • Assist with school emergency preparedness drills and equipment checks.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of School Operations.
