    Position Summary

Arts4Schools is seeking an experienced Grant Writing Intern to support our fundraising and program growth. This role is ideal for a candidate who has previously written grants and can help identify opportunities, develop strong proposals, and support the organization in securing sustainable funding.

This is a mission-driven internship with a performance-based stipend: Arts4Schools will provide a stipend for each grant that is awarded based on the intern’s completed submission (and approved scope of work). This role may also help shape future funding strategy and could expand into ongoing contract work depending on results and organizational needs.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Research and recommend grant opportunities aligned with Arts4Schools programs and geography (CT + DC)
    • Review guidelines and determine eligibility, deadlines, and required attachments
    • Draft high-quality grant narratives, including need statements, program descriptions, goals/outcomes, and evaluation plans
    • Collaborate with Arts4Schools leadership to gather required information (budgets, program data, timelines, organizational documents)
    • Support creation/refinement of a reusable grant “library” (boilerplate language, program one-pagers, outcomes, budgets)
    • Ensure proposals are submitted on time and meet all formatting/compliance requirements
    • Track submissions, deadlines, reporting requirements, and outcomes in a shared tracker

    Preferred Qualifications (Experience Required)

    • Demonstrated grant writing experience (student or professional), with at least one completed proposal submitted
    • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a clear, organized style
    • Ability to interpret funder guidelines and translate program work into measurable outcomes
    • Comfort working independently and meeting deadlines
    • Familiarity with education, youth development, arts education, or nonprofit settings is a plus
    • Experience with common grant portals and document assembly is helpful

    What Success Looks Like

    • A clear, funder-aligned pipeline of opportunities
    • Well-written, compliant proposals submitted on time
    • Strong proposal materials that can be reused and improved over time
    • Increased funding to support programming expansion and sustainability

    Compensation / Stipend Structure (Transparent)

Arts4Schools will provide a stipend per funded grant for proposals substantially drafted and submitted by the intern in coordination with our leadership team. Stipend amount and tracking expectations will be outlined in writing at the start of the internship to ensure clarity and fairness.
