    Turtle Island Restoration Network (TIRN) headquartered in California is a leading advocate for ocean protection and watershed species protection. www.Seaturtles.org

    Position Summary

    This is a six-month position. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

    TIRN is seeking an enthusiastic, responsible, and creative person to participate in an environmental advocacy initiative. The selected intern will work closely with the Executive Director and other staff, including experts in advocacy, policy, and ecology.

    Working alongside TIRN’s executive director, founder, policy lead, and communications lead, the Environmental Advocacy Intern will identify opportunities to engage scientists, administrators, and former federal employees in policy initiatives aimed at defining the environment and bulwark environmental laws such as the Endangered Species Act.

    This position is ideal for those looking to gain hands-on experience in advocacy promoting environmental protection and environmental justice.

    Intern Roles & Responsibilities

      • Legislative and policy research.
      • Use of known strategies and additional creative thinking of ways to reach target audiences and promoting petitions, sign-on letters and action alerts.
      • Coordinating research and outreach with a team
      • Weekly meetings to discuss progress.

    Qualifications & Skills

      • Internet research
      • Ability to use PC or Mac and phone for direct and internet communications
      • Strong verbal and written communication skills
      • Ability to work independently and organize oneself
      • Ability to project a positive image of the organization
      • Creative thinker and interest in helping to improve and develop new methods and ideas to accomplish goals
      • Strong interest in nature and the environment. Willingness to participate in creative thinking towards paradigm changing concepts and outreach methods.

    Learning Objectives

    The Environmental Advocacy internship will help you gain hands-on experience advocacy for environmental policy and teamwork with professionals in their field (advocacy, communications, and policy).

    Terms

    Location: This position can be remote or residential*, located at our headquarters in Olema, California, with free, shared housing nearby.

    Starting Time: This is a six-month position, applications are reviewed and filled on a rolling basis.

    Hours: 30 hours/week minimum.

    Benefits: We are happy to work with academic departments to ensure the internship meets requirements for academic credit.
