Homeless Services Network (HSN) of Central Florida is committed to the vision of “Everyone making their way home.” HSN’s mission is leading Central Florida's community-wide effort to end homelessness through collaboration, strategy, capacity building and effective stewardship of knowledge and resources. HSN, through the YHSI Grant, has been able to solidify youth participation in system improvement at the state level via the establishment of a statewide Youth Action Board called FLY in Action.
The FLY Communication Intern will within the CoC Planning Team to ensure that all activities related to this effort including podcast filming, editing, and posting are successfully executed with their assistance. Furthermore, the intern will play a key role in supporting our strategic goal of increasing visibility and engagement for both FLY and YAS across digital platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok). Finally, the intern will assist with the implementation of FLY’s Learning Management System (LMS).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with posting, scheduling, and management of all FLY and YAS social media channels.
- Support the development of consistent and engaging social media content to increase audience reach and participation.
- Design visually appealing flyers and promotional materials to attract greater community engagement.
- Assist with our strategic goal of growing our social media presence on all of our platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, ect.)
- Film and assist with the editing of podcast episodes and short-form video content (e.g., Reels).
- Support the planning and facilitation of small remote meetings with members of the FLY Communications Subcommittee.
- Collaborate with System Improvement Fellows to develop innovative communication strategies for YAS and FLY initiatives.
- Assist in the development of a youth training hub (LMS).
- The intern will work within the CoC Planning Team and report directly to Christian.
- The internship will last for 4 months, with the possibility of extension based on mutual agreement between HSN and the intern.
- By the end of the internship, the intern must have 8 podcast episodes fully ready to be released.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Strong interest in communications, social media, marketing, or nonprofit work
- Experience with social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok)
- Basic to intermediate skills in graphic design (e.g., Canva, Adobe tools)
- Experience in podcast production, video filming, and editing
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
- Comfortable facilitating virtual meetings and engaging with diverse stakeholders
- Commitment of 5-10 hours per week is required
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and bend, use their hands to handle, operate, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must also be able to sit for extended periods of time. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
Work Environment
This position operates in a remote/hybrid (occasional in-person attendance required). No travel in the community is expected, unless in-person meeting with a community member for the podcast is needed. Employees will regularly interact with team members, clients, and external agencies, often addressing sensitive issues associated with homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, and other barriers to housing stability. The role demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and adaptability to dynamic situations. Work is generally completed between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., generally Monday through Friday. Some meetings may occur during evening hours.
This is a part-time, seasonal position requiring up to 10 hours per week.
Conditions of Employment
- Provision of satisfactory references and completion of background investigation check
- Completion of a pre-employment drug screening as well as post-employment drug or alcohol tests upon reasonable suspicion of use
- Demonstrated computer literacy, which may be assessed through pre-employment testing.
- Completion of HSN new employee orientation and ALL required paperwork prior to reporting to work
- Compliance with all HSN Policies and Procedures.
