What is Forest Therapy ? Why Forest Therapy Nepal ( FTN) ? Why Nepal ?
Forest Therapy is an evidence-based Public health practice. Guided Forest Therapy walks combine a specific blend of complementary physical and mental exercises in suitable forest surroundings leading to a lower heart beat, blood pressure and stress levels while, at the same time, the immune system, breathing and the overall physical and mental fitness and wellbeing are strengthened.
Forest Therapy Nepal (FTN) represents a strategic imperative to bridge the gap between Nepal’s untapped natural capital and the global public health crisis. We move beyond traditional forestry to establish a sophisticated ecosystem of healing.
Vision: Healing Humanity, Prospering Nepal.
Mission: To establish Nepal’s first Public Limited Company that transforms the nation’s 46% forest cover into a "Global Natural Hospital" through an integrated Public-Private-Community Partnership (PPCP) model, merging evidence-based Forest Medicine with advanced technology and sustainable entrepreneurship.
- 2. The "Global Natural Hospital" Value Proposition
The modern world is facing an epidemic of "Karoshi" (death from overwork) and pervasive "Techno-stress." As urban populations spend 99.99% of their evolutionary history in nature but now inhabit artificial environments, the resulting "Nature Deficit Disorder" requires a systemic cure.
FTN’s value proposition lies in Resource Capitalization: transitioning forests from low-value timber resources to high-value health infrastructure. Nepal’s unique biodiversity offers a "Global Natural Hospital" where the forest itself—not concrete buildings—is the primary infrastructure. This model allows for high-margin wellness services with minimal capital expenditure, positioning Nepal as the ultimate antidote to the global mental health crisis.
The Five-Pillar Strategic Framework
- 1. Techno-Forest (Innovation Hub)
This pillar repurposes technology to solve the "Techno-stress" it created. We integrate AI-driven health monitoring to provide participants with real-time physiological feedback and VR forest experiences for clinical outreach.
- Addressing Techno-stress: By quantifying the restorative effect of the forest, we provide "Bio-Happiness" data that validates the immersion experience.
- Target Demographic: IT and Tech Graduates seeking to apply data science to public health and wellness technology.
- 2. Bio-Capital (Research & Development)
We move beyond timber extraction to the high-value sector of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs). This involves the scientific study of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)—specifically the high concentrations of Alpha-pinene found in Nepalese Pine and Rhododendron—and the commercialization of Turkey Berry as a potent health supplement.
- Target Demographic: Botany, Forestry, and Horticulture Graduates focused on pharmaceutical and nutraceutical research.
- 3. Eco-Hospitality (Infrastructure)
FTN differentiates itself by replacing "Adventure Tourism" (low-margin) with "Scientific Shinrin-yoku" (high-margin). We develop healing trails and mud-house retreats designed for slow, sensory-based immersion rather than traditional, high-impact trekking or jungle walks.
- Target Demographic: MBA and Tourism Graduates looking to lead the transition from volume-based tourism to value-based wellness hospitality.
- 4. Medi-Psych Hub (Clinical Application)
Under the guidance of "Forest Medicine"—a discipline pioneered by experts like Dr. Qing Li—this pillar provides clinical oversight for stress and rehabilitation protocols. It addresses the current educational vacuum in Nepal by creating formal career paths for medical professionals within the forestry sector.
- Expertise Required: Medical Doctors for clinical monitoring and Psychology Professionals for mental health assessments.
- Target Demographic: Medical and Psychology Graduates pursuing interdisciplinary roles in preventative healthcare.
- 5. Social Equity (Community Model)
Our foundation is the 22,000+ Community Forest User Groups (CFUGs). By utilizing a PPCP model, we ensure that the wealth generated from "Ecosystem Services" stays within the community, providing a scalable, equitable economic engine.
- Target Demographic: Rural Development and SDG Specialists focused on socio-economic empowerment through nature-based solutions.
Phytoncide Efficacy
Phytoncides are antimicrobial Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) emitted by trees. Inhaling these bioactive substances—particularly Alpha-pinene in Nepal’s high-altitude forests—triggers a physiological cascade:
- Natural Killer (NK) Cells: Significant increase in the number and activity of NK cells, which are critical for fighting cancer and lifestyle diseases.
- Immune Synergy: Boosting the human immune system for up to 30 days following a single intensive session.
The "Bio-Capital" pillar acts as the core engine for product development and tangible revenue generation through the commercialization of natural forest resources. This pillar plays several crucial roles in the Forest Therapy Nepal (FTN) business model:
- Direct Revenue Generation through Product Lines: The primary focus of the Bio-Capital pillar is researching forest bio-materials and phytoncides, which are the natural, immune-boosting volatile organic compounds emitted by trees. By capitalizing on this research, the pillar creates a direct, scalable product line that includes the commercial sale of forest-derived essential oils and local medicinal flora like "Turkey Berry" health supplements. Furthermore, these active biochemicals can be extracted and commercialized into everyday wellness goods, such as sprays, shampoos, and aromatherapy products, or even utilized in pharmaceutical applications.
- Pioneering "Resource Capitalization": This pillar represents an innovative model of "Resource Capitalization" that targets a massive, untapped market. Currently, there is a significant scientific research gap regarding the specific phytoncides found in Nepalese Pine and Rhododendron forests and their impact on cancer-fighting Natural Killer (NK) cells. For investors, funding this pillar means securing a first-mover advantage in researching and utilizing these native Nepalese resources for the global wellness market.
- Attracting Specialized Talent: To successfully drive this scientific research and product creation, the Bio-Capital pillar is strategically designed to attract and integrate specialized academic graduates and experts specifically from the fields of Botany, Forestry, and Horticulture.
By merging scientific discovery with commercial product development, the Bio-Capital pillar provides investors with a scalable, physical revenue stream that complements FTN's service-based eco-hospitality offerings.

Why Nepal? Why EcoHomeStay Nepal Volunteers ?
Nepal is one of the most beautiful, culturally rich and welcoming country in the world. Nepal is very rich in diversity where temperature and culture differs every minutes of distance . It is home to Mount Everest, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, and an astonishingly beautiful and diverse landscape, ranging from the well-known peaks of the Himalayas to the low-lying regions of the Terai-Madesh. The Nepali people are as diverse as the geography, with over 70 languages or dialects and scores of traditional festivals celebrated throughout the year.
However, Nepal is among the poorest and least developed countries in the world with low rates of literacy, high rates of poverty and a persistent gender imbalance. The government is frequently unable to provide adequate education and health facilities throughout the country and both urban and rural areas are forced to live without the necessary resources to promote the growth and development of their communities:
42% of the population live below the poverty line on less than $240 a year
15,000 orphans are living on Kathmandu's streets
42% of the population of Nepal are unemployed
51% illiteracy rate throughout Nepal
5 doctors are available for each 100,000 inhabitants
54% of Nepali children are malnourished
