The Institute for Education and Social Policy (IESP) specializes in quantitative analyses of large administrative and national databases, evaluations of important policy innovations and interventions, and longitudinal studies of changes over time that combine data from disparate sources to examine the impacts of these policies.

Faculty, research staff, and doctoral students share an interest and commitment to improving the health, education, and welfare of disadvantaged populations. Current research topics include childhood obesity, special education policy, small high school reform, housing and neighborhoods, homelessness, high school choice, and summer jobs for youth.

IESP was founded in 1995 as a partnership between Steinhardt, the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
