Counter Balance Foundation for Victims of Crime

In 2014, the FBI reported that in twelve months 1,214,462 violent crimes occurred nationwide. About 63% of those crimes were aggravated assaults. That means one-on-one: Perpetrator versus Victim. When the Perpetrator is caught, he gets a free attorney. We think the Victim should get a free attorney, too. Counter Balance is a new 501(c)(3) certified nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free legal services to Victims of violent crime. We work together with law enforcement, prosecutors, and legal agencies to make sure the Victim has a legal advocate. After the Perpetrator is convicted, we give Victims the legal services they need. WE'RE ON A MISSION We want to provide Victims of violent crime with legal help so that they can get back to normal. Each client is ensured free legal services – regardless of economic status – because we believe no person should pay for relief from a violent crime. We want the members of our community to know that we are here to help. We act as a bridge between the congested criminal justice system, and the reality of a Victim’s life. We want law enforcement to know that we support them, too. We can help manage casework, obtain evidence to assist prosecution, and help manage Victims in need. WHO WE SERVE Counter Balance serves a wide array of Victims who have suffered violent crime. We never want to take a penny from a Victim.
