Center for Asian Health Equity - University of Chicago Medicine

  • Acerca de

The Center for Asian Health Equity - University of Chicago Medicine (CAHE) brings together the assets of a world class research institution and the established coalition of community-based, non-profit organizations to investigate health disparities that affect AANHPIs, African immigrants, and other communities of color. CAHE takes a multidisciplinary, collaborative approach to address gaps in clinical medicine and public health through comprehensive research programs, health education, training, community engagement, policy, and information dissemination. CAHE has three main research areas: 1) cancer screening and prevention, 2) behavioral health, and 3) chronic and infectious disease prevention.

CAHE is housed within the University of Chicago Medicine (UCM) and leverages the policy, research, clinical, and administrative strengths of the UCM with the long-standing community engagement and programmatic capacity of the AHC. The team includes primary care medical doctors, informatics specialists, research evaluators, and program implementers to successfully implement the deliverables. The organization has successfully assessed various needs within and between communities of color, developed actionable reports, and created tools to support programs in addressing health disparities within underserved communities. The broad, translational research initiatives of CAHE are as important today as any time in the past six years as the number of AANHPIs in the United States has tripled in the past three decades, becoming the fastest growing among all racial/ethnic groups, reaching almost 20 million and representing 176 countries in 2020.
