INGO "Ponimanie"/'Understanding'

INGO “Ponimanie” is nationwide and international professional NGO focused on child protection. The mission of INGO “Ponimanie” is to develop the world fit for children through our professional contribution and help children in difficult situations. Most important target groups of “Ponimanie” are children in residential institutions and shelters, abused and neglected children and children-at-risk. Activities and services provided by INGO “Ponimanie” are: summer camps, training seminars and workshops for children, professionals and families of local community around orphanages, multidisciplinary child protection team consulting and assessment, community based projects, publications, analysis and research. There are 124 members and 71 voluntaries are participating in our activity at the moment. “Ponimanie” has branches in Ukraine and Lithuania. Established in 2000, INGO “Ponimanie” has held several successful annual projects and we are implementing some projects at present time. Seems the absence of the possibility to obtain the support to NGO from Belarusian Government and other internal sources we have to look for support around international and foreign donors. Our partners are: UNICEF (2001, 2002, 2003, 20005-06), Counterpart Alliance for Partnership (USAID funded program) (2004-05), Swiss Bureau of Development and Cooperation (2005), International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (Oak Foundation funded project for 2006-07). “Ponimanie” has published and distributed among specialists in Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Countries of Baltic Sea seven professional books on forming of social surrounding fit for children and support to socialization of wares of orphanages. Leaders of INGO and number of specialists and voluntaries are holding scientific activity and lecturer activity in universities and NGO. INGO “Ponimanie” is participant of several international researches, projects and events including United Nation’s Study of Violence against Children (2005-06) and National Study of Child Abuse and Neglect (UNICEF, 2007). INGO “Ponimanie” is ISPCAN National Partner in Belarus, member of Child Rights Information Network (CRIN) and National Child Rights Network. INGO “Ponimanie” is initiator of creation of NGO Ethic Community in Belarus. INGO “Ponimanie” has local awards and it is Laureate of National Social Fair of 2005, 2006, and 2007.
