  • Misión

Beyond the Ballot is a Gen Z-led 501(c)(4) nonprofit dedicated to fighting for working-class priorities at the state and local levels. We empower young organizers to push bold policies, apply public pressure, and hold politicians accountable—because democracy doesn’t end at the polls. We focus on grassroots organizing to challenge political and economic systems that put billionaires over everyday people. Through advocacy, education, and direct action, we’re building a movement to secure real change for working families.

    Acerca de

Beyond the Ballot was founded in 2024 by a group of Gen Z organizers who grew frustrated with false narratives in left-leaning messaging, and a political environment that too often fails to center the needs of state and local priorities. Our mission here is clear and concise: we are organizing, engaging, and empowering young community leaders to build political power from the bottom up while educating communities on how to leverage their power to deliver bold progressive policies. We were founded on the principles that our approach to organizing and advocacy should be focused on long-term movement building, and never on performative action or convenient political posturing.

We won’t be sending thank you cards to your Governor for delivering on the policies they campaigned on. We know that to secure a more progressive future where college doesn’t translate to debt, medical care isn’t for profit, and politicians aren’t paid for by the rich, we must organize our communities from the bottom up and make it impossible for our elected officials to resist reform. As young people ourselves, we’re often told to wait our turn – that we must first be anointed by party figures to be capable of advocating and fighting for our communities. These same party figures who tell us to wait our turn are the same figures who continue to force us to choose between a lesser of two evils and a far-right fascist dictator. As young people, we must dismiss this notion — because we know that democracy only begins at the polls. That the real work of a democratic society is everything that occurs in between the elections. Our generation knows the difference between material progressive policies and moderate political posturing, and it’s long past time for a people-centered movement to call it out.

We know that nonprofits kind of suck. Unnecessary processes and committee for a committee style operations only seek to hinder the requirements of a decentralized organizing effort. We don’t claim that our model is perfect, however, Beyond the Ballot is working hard to ensure that unnecessary nonprofit red tape doesn’t slow down the need for more strategic advocacy efforts. That’s why we rely on bottom-up input and decision-making to improve the systems and mechanisms that govern our chapters because even the least engaged volunteers deserve a seat at the table. We don’t exist for individual self-political gain, or to march into communities and tell them what’s best for them, instead, we’re here to listen and organize individuals based on their political frustrations. Because billionaires have their champions, it’s time the young working class had theirs.
