    The Society Promoting Environmental Conservation (Since 1969)

    For over 40 years SPEC has been a leader in urban environmentalism. SPEC’s mission is to educate and empower citizens in the Lower Mainland and Georgia Basin to reduce their ecological footprint and build healthy, sustainable cities. Through its public education programs and advocacy work, SPEC continues to raise public awareness on environmental issues and encourages policies and practices that lead to urban sustainability. Every year we offer workshops and tours where participants can view sustainable technologies in action. SPEC also supports school gardens, two demonstration gardens in Vancouver, and is planning to start an urban agriculture education program.

    Current Campaigns: SPEC’s work is currently focused on the following five main campaign areas. For more information on the specificities of our campaigns please see our website (www.spec.bc.ca/).

    1- Food

    3- Waste

    4- Transportation

    5- Land and water conservation
