Civics First, Inc.

Established in 1976, Civics First is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing democracy and law education in Connecticut’s schools through exciting, hands-on learning experiences for students, teacher training, and curriculum development. Its objective is to use interesting, innovative activities to incorporate law-related education into the curriculum of all schools, from kindergarten through high school.

Known for more than 30 years as the Connecticut Consortium for Law and Citizenship Education, Inc., Civics First today utilizes volunteers from the education, legal, law enforcement and government sectors. It is governed by a board of directors composed of volunteers living and working in Connecticut as current or retired teachers, lawyers, town managers, judges, university faculty and others interested in furthering the goals of democracy and law education. This diverse group of individuals provides a broad range of expertise to Civics First as it strives to support Connecticut schools.
