Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market | Phoenix Public Market

A dedicated group of engaged and enthusiastic volunteers is key to Phoenix Public Market’s success. Volunteers help with market operations, support our public education efforts, and add to the markets’ spirit of community. The information below will give you an idea of the volunteer opportunities at the markets and beyond. There are so many ways to get involved, both behind the scenes and on Saturday morning market days! Volunteers must be at least 15 years old to work alone on market days. Children under 15 may volunteer with an adult or parent. We welcome high school students who are looking to fulfill their community service hours.

Saturdays at the farmers market is complicated and dynamic and takes a lot of work to get up and running! Volunteering at a market gets you outside and is a great way to get to know your community and the people who grow your food. We offer two time slots during the Market. 7:30am – 10:30am and 10:15am-1:15pm. Volunteers arrive at the Market and meet at the Information Booth to check in and get situated. Volunteers work outdoors helping with different tasks at the Market.

Information Booth

Distribute market information, answer patron questions, check in our Loyal Locals, hand out public education materials, run Double Up Food Buck transactions and other credit/debit transactions. This is a great volunteer position if you like to interact with people.

Pierce Street Team

Stationed on Pierce Street to help make ensure everything is running smoothly on the South end of the Market. Wipe tables, sweep trash and keep our dining area clean and comfortable. Assist with workshops/demos. Help to greet chefs, musicians, authors, and special guests and assist with set-up. Make sure guest has all necessary equipment, assist with food prep, book sales, equipment set-up if necessary, control the crowds, garner support within market, distribute samples, recipes, or flyers to patrons and farmers. Assist with set up/breakdown of programming. May require some heavy lifting, pushing/dragging.

Green Team

Help reduce our waste impact at the market by diverting reusable materials from landfills. Assist customers with sorting their recyclables and compostable waste.  Facilitate sustainability games and share educational materials. Help clean up the Market neighborhood by picking up trash. May require some heavy lifting and pushing/dragging

Set Up + Breakdown/Vendor Support

There is opportunity for volunteers to join us before the Market begins and after the Market closes to help assist both Market staff and vendors with set up and break down.

Outside of the Market Services

Volunteers who would like to help outside of the Market by volunteering both time and skills are encouraged to do so.
