Circular Congregational Church

Circular Church's congregation has been worshiping in the same spot in Charleston, South Carolina since 1681. From its beginning, the congregation challenged the established order, and this tradition has continued throughout our history.

Circular is a vibrant and theologically progressive church with a clear voice for social justice.

• We took a stand for the integration of churches in the 1960's
• We declared ourselves an open and affirming church in 1999, fully embracing our LGBTQIA family 
• We added a LEED-certified, "green" education building to our historic campus in 2007, representing our commitment to environmental sustainability
• We became a UCC Just Peace church in 2018

We are called to be a progressive Christian example, to continue to serve our members well, to continue with our traditions, to encourage the growth of the congregation, to facilitate and develop the spiritual life of the congregation, to maintain and strengthen Circular's place in the larger community, to work on solutions to the area's problems in poverty, race, environment, education, and healthcare, and to continue to remain a voice and home for the gay and lesbian community.
