Poetry for Personal Power has built a community-based mental health network over the past 12 years. This network now includes Missouri, Colorado, and other artists and advocates in small pockets across the US. These networks collaborate with schools, churches, health facilities, and other community groups (whether or not "mental health" is in their mission statement). Our design accommodates mental health care modifications. Today, mental health patients and potential patients live in the community. They get support where we do-in families, communities, schools, and social situations.
Goals:
(1) Promote consumer leadership in the organization, community, and with associated stakeholders.
(2) Improve recovery and trauma-informed skills in mental health care and peer support providers.
(3) Increase consumer voice, leadership, and empowerment in treatment organizations statewide.
This agency promotes resiliency, lowers stigma, increases community ability to avoid mental health crises and respond quickly, and helps treatment institutions deliver person-centered care through a workforce with consumer voice.
