Established in 1968 as the first Faculty of Environmental Studies in Canada, we are internationally recognized for our innovative approach to study, teaching and research. Our unique and creative Master’s and PhD programs encourage exploration by not requiring you to adhere to any set courses or field of study. Instead, we provide flexibility and support you in taking ownership of your own studies—so you can follow the research path you’ve always dreamed of exploring. Our interdisciplinary perspective is reinforced by the diverse backgrounds of our faculty members, whose areas of expertise include urban planning, political science, sociology, geography, biology, philosophy, oceanography, economics and English literature. By combining their guidance with our unique pedagogical model we inspire and challenge students to approach environmental issues with an open mind, to become engaged members of their communities and to develop their own self-directed areas of study. We welcome applications from students with undergraduate degrees in all disciplines who are interested in deepening their critical perspective on a broad range of environmental issues.
