Rugby Oregon

Rugby Oregon is the governing body for youth rugby in Oregon and Southwest Washington. We are responsible for organizing and supporting youth leagues, coach education, referee development, player pathways, and school-based programming throughout our region. Our programs serve athletes, coaches, referees, and clubs at every stage of development from first-time participants to competitive high school athletes.

Rugby Oregon is the governing body for youth rugby in Oregon and Southwest Washington, dedicated to growing the sport from the ground up by making it accessible, inclusive, and sustainable for every young athlete in our region. We oversee youth leagues, coach education, referee development, player pathways, and school-based programming, serving athletes, coaches, clubs, and families at every stage of the rugby journey.

Who We Serve

We serve youth athletes ages 5 through 18 across Oregon and Southwest Washington, with programming spanning elementary school flag rugby, middle school development leagues, and high school competitive play for both boys and girls. We are intentionally expanding into underserved areas, including Title I schools and communities with limited access to organized athletics, to ensure rugby is available to every young person regardless of background, income, or prior sports experience.

Our Values

We believe sport is a powerful vehicle for personal growth and community connection. Everything we do is grounded in a commitment to inclusion, equity, player development, and building programs that are sustainable beyond any single season or grant cycle. A central organizational priority is gender equity we are actively working toward 50% female-identifying participation across all youth rugby programming, investing in women coaches and leaders, and ensuring female athletes see themselves represented on and off the field.

Our Work

Our Rugby in Schools initiative brings rugby directly into PE classes and after-school programs, removing financial and logistical barriers by meeting students where they already are. Our youth leagues provide structured playing opportunities for boys and girls from elementary through high school. Our coach education and referee development programs build local coaching pipelines and create leadership opportunities for women and underrepresented groups. Our club support work helps existing and emerging clubs grow sustainably within their communities.

Looking Ahead

Rugby Oregon is at an exciting moment in our growth. We are expanding into new schools and communities, deepening partnerships with school districts and parks and recreation departments, and building the infrastructure needed to support a larger and more diverse youth rugby community because we believe every young person in Oregon and Southwest Washington deserves the opportunity to discover what rugby can do for them.
