Hopewell’s mission is to improve access to music education in North Minneapolis through affordable, inclusive, and engaging music programs

Hopewell Music Cooperative North (Hopewell Music) began in 2012 when two Northside music teachers shared a frustration over the diminishing access to music education. In turn, these teachers opened up the only comprehensive music school in North Minneapolis. The Ensemble Program was subsequently developed in 2013 to accommodate students’ desire for ensemble playing as there were no community ensembles in North Minneapolis. At the end of 2012, 50 students were enrolled in music lessons, and in the first year of the ensemble program 6 members participated. By 2019, Hopewell Music engaged over 700 students and community members through 160 weekly private lessons, six multigenerational ensembles, in-school music programming, and more than 20 public performances. At the start of the pandemic, online lessons were introduced to ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff. Today, we are continuing to offer online lessons and reopened for in-person during Fall 2021. Since 2020, Hopewell Music has been continuing to provide equitable music education in the era of COVID through online lessons, classes, and ensembles.
