The Laboratory School of Finance and Technology

The Laboratory School for Finance and Technology is a public, district school, part of the NYC Department of Education. ​The Lab School is an exciting and innovative student-centered learning community that provides a rigorous academic program in a supportive environment. Our friendly and colorful classrooms are laboratories of intensive and challenging instruction. We are a model school for both math instruction and Teacher's College literacy instruction in the region. After ten years as a successful middle school, we began the process of expanding in September 2013 and now serve students in grades 6 through 12. Our high school is part of the New York Performance Standards Consortium, a group of schools that believes one size fits all standardized tests are not the best measure of mastery. Our students are exempt from all Regents Exams except English and instead complete Performance Based Assessment Tasks, often in interdisciplinary units. For more information, please see http://performanceassessment.org/.

Our mission is to provide an engaging rigorous academic program within a supportive and nurturing environment. We seek to expose our students to information technology and global commerce through a simulated economy and intensive technology training to prepare them to be successful in a rapidly changing world. We believe that learning becomes more meaningful when it is purposeful. Through active engagement, project-based learning and encouragement we will cultivate self-discipline and self esteem among the members of our community and at the same time foster respect and consideration for others.

The staff members at ​The Laboratory School of Finance and Technology are dedicated, enthusiastic educators working to improve their craft. Inter-school visitations, staff workshops, and consultation with experts who visit their classrooms foster an environment of constant learning and ongoing reflection. Teachers play a significant role in the development of the school through curriculum planning, distribution of resources, creation and execution of staff development programs and school-wide goals. Sound educational practices are stressed over specific programs. We invest in our teachers and their effectiveness in the classroom and as a result, their dedication and caring are the essential foundation of building our community of learners.
