METEC Housing Counseling resource Center is a non-for-profit 501c(3) organization created in 2001 to provide economic opportunities for families in the City of Peoria – specifically those earning low-to-moderate wages. Our mission is to provide financial tools and resources that put individuals in control of their financial future. Homeownership is our primary goal with financial literacy at the core of every program we offer.

To better serve the community, we have partnered with local organizations, lenders, realtors, and other non-for-profit organizations to form a resource center, which improves our capacity to offer home buying services and training. These services increase homeownership and economic stability within Peoria and the surrounding counties.

Our year to date counseling activities was double what we did the entire 2008-2009 fiscal year. Over the past year, METEC has conducted forty workshops and training sessions that educate participants on everything from improving their credit to increasing their borrowing power, protecting their credit from predatory lenders, walking clients through the steps involved in buying their first home, explaining benefits of tax credits in conjunction with energy star products, and maintaining their home once it’s purchased.
