The Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine established our hospital as the first and only Catholic hospital in Stark County, a distinction we still hold. When the Sisters came to Canton in 1908, they joined with physicians to convert President McKinley's former home into a hospital.

Recognized as one of America's 100 Top Hospitals for cardiovascular services/interventional cardiology, Mercy Medical Center has been a leader in bringing new and innovative heart treatments to our area. A life-saving protocol, which provides angioplasty in the Emergency Department was pioneered here in Mercy's Emergency Chest Pain Center (ECPC).

Become part of an outstanding volunteer team that contributes over 91,000 annual service hours to further the mission of Mercy medical Center, as well as having over 580 active volunteers. Adult and teen volunteer opportunities are available to help hospital caregivers enhance the service extended to patients and their families.

Mercy Medical Center's Volunteer Department has numerous opportunities such as; Volunteering, Mercy Ambassador Teen Program, Shadow-A-Professional Program, Clinical/Non-clinical Interns, Pet Patrol Program, and Episodic Volunteering. In addition we have our new PARTNER Program.
