West Fund

The West Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization affiliated with the National Network of Abortion Funds and based in El Paso, Texas, that works to make abortions accessible for all people. We are a small group of volunteers who believe reproductive justice is only possible when all people have the information, ability, and resources to make their own healthcare decisions. Through education, community building, and gap funding, we hope to empower west Texans, helping them achieve their decisions and access the healthcare they deserve.

We formed in 2013, after Texas House Bill 2 effectively closed half of the abortion clinics in the state of Texas. 98% of the counties in Texas lack an abortion provider and with the procedure costing upwards of $500, access to abortion is something that isn't within reach for many.

Through a mixed fundraising, outreach, and community funding approach, we counter the oppressive legislation and barriers imposed by our state by connecting those who need access to abortion but cannot afford it. We seek to center marginalized people and people historically underrepresented in mainstream reproductive justice movements. It is critical to us to reflect our community and help meet their needs. This starts with our leadership. We have a board and volunteer base that is mostly made up of young people, people of color, chican@s, queer folks, and trans people. We hope to add young parents, pregnant people, members of the military, members of faith, medical, legal and accounting professionals, and people who have had abortions to our board.

Our vision is to live in a society where equal access to abortion is guaranteed for all people without barriers or hurdles, regardless of their economic situation. We oppose all efforts to restrict abortion rights and are committed to fighting for access to healthcare for all people who may become pregnant.
