  • Misión

La Casa de las Madres responds to calls for help from domestic violence victims, of all ages 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We give survivors the tools to transform their lives. We seek to prevent future violence by educating the community and by redefining public perceptions about domestic violence. Forty-five ago, La Casa de las Madres opened San Francisco's first domestic violence shelter for women and their children. The once-quiet shelter has grown into the city's leading voice for abused women, their children and teens--educating, promoting awareness and changing the community's and the media's perceptions about domestic violence and its victims. Through a broad service continuum, we provide expert intervention and prevention services to 20,000 community members annually. Our goal is to restore dignity, generate hope, evoke courage, and help maximize the potential of our clients.

    Acerca de

La Casa serves all individual impacted by domestic violence. We offer free, culturally inclusive, multilingual services to all survivors in need, but prioritize sheltering those with the fewest resources on hand. La Casa provides half the city’s emergency shelter beds for domestic violence and is the only organization enabling access to safety 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Not only do we respond to crisis around the clock, we run an active Drop-In Counseling Center, two crisis hotlines, a text line, a 35-bed shelter, a teen program, a survivors-over-50 project, and a wide range of outreach initiatives. Across all programs, our work reaches 20,000 community members yearly.
