At the Women and Children’s Center of the Sierra (WACCS), we are dedicated to helping women escape poverty and create better lives for themselves and their families. Founded in 2008, we were created in response to the financial crisis and began as one of Northern Nevada’s first diaper banks. Since then, we’ve expanded our services to include a food pantry, educational programs, and direct support for women and families in crisis.
We primarily serve low-income women and their children, including many immigrants, domestic violence survivors, and individuals who are often left behind by traditional social services. Our team is made up of compassionate, bilingual women of color who reflect the community we serve. We believe in meeting people where they are—with dignity, kindness, and practical support.
Our core values include empathy, empowerment, and equity. We aim to be a consistent and trusted source of essential needs, education, and advocacy for our clients. In 2023 alone, we served over 2,800 individuals—and the need continues to grow. Whether it's providing diapers, connecting someone to shelter, offering parenting or ESL classes, or simply being a safe place to ask for help, we’re here to walk alongside our clients as they work toward stability and hope
