The Pantry’s namesake, Obi, passed away on 5/23/2020. After he left us I looked through his adoption papers. He was relinquished to CACC by his previous owner. He was brought there because he had separation anxiety. He was there for 3 weeks before he was pulled by a rescue. I thought about what his owner went through and if there was anything that could've prevented his relinquishment. Maybe she didn’t have access to certain things that could've improved his quality of life. Would those things have helped her keep him? What about other families who have special needs pets? What can we do as a city to help keep pets in the homes with the people that they love? The human animal bond is real and must be nurtured. OPP is a pets only donation box, similar to the libraries you see. It operates on the honor system and is accessible 24/7. Items are free and no questions are asked. They're donated by various people and businesses. They range from food to basic pet supplies. Our vision is to have pantries throughout the city, including other dog parks. OPP was recognized by the following. NBC,WGN,CNN, IFA, Best Friends.
