Women's March Oakland

Acerca de

Women’s March Oakland envisions an East Bay free from systems of oppression and rooted in inclusive structures guided by autonomy, dignity and respect for all self-identified women and other vulnerable populations.

Our mission is to harness the political power of diverse women and their communities in Oakland and the greater East Bay to create transformative social change.

Women’s March Oakland is a women-led movement providing intersectional education on a diverse range of issues and creating entry points for new grassroots activists and organizers to engage in their local East Bay communities. We have 4 areas of focus:

CIVIL RIGHTS

Civil rights—including voting rights and equal protections for all people regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability or national origin—are the foundation of a just society. We are committed to breaking down voting barriers, and we believe it is time for an all-inclusive Equal Rights Amendment to the US Constitution.

ENDING VIOLENCE

We deserve to live full and healthy lives, free of all forms of violence. We should feel safe at home, at school, in the workplace, and in our neighborhoods. We believe in accountability and justice in cases of police brutality and ending racial profiling and targeting of communities of color. It is our moral imperative to dismantle the gender and racial inequities within the criminal justice system and other power structures.

IMMIGRANT RIGHTS

We are committed to immigrant and refugee rights, regardless of status or country of origin. We believe migration is a human right and that no human being is illegal. Immigrants are integral to all communities, and all cultures should be celebrated.

YOUTH

Our future is in the hands of young people, and one of the most powerful actions we can take is to uplift and learn from tomorrow’s leaders. We are committed to partnering with youth-led movements and organizations, and providing emerging activists with leadership and mentorship opportunities to fight for progress on issues that disproportionately affect young people.
