The Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society is a state-of-the-art animal shelter in coastal Virginia with a long and proud history of providing compassionate and responsible care to abandoned and homeless animals in the communities we serve. Originally chartered in 1912, the GMHS continues to be a beacon in animal advocacy, welfare and adoption. As the society enters its second century, we remain committed to discovering new, innovative ways to be a leader in animal sheltering and education as we continue to build a culture of collaboration and service. We strive to live our mission every day: to shelter animals and provide them a bright future in the loving, adoptive homes they deserve.
