  • Misión

The Southwest Seattle Historical Society promotes local heritage through education, preservation, and advocacy.

    Acerca de

The Southwest Seattle Historical Society was founded in 1984 with the goal of promoting the local heritage of the Duwamish Peninsula through education, preservation, and advocacy. Our service area, the Duwamish Peninsula, spans from Puget Sound to the West, Elliott Bay to the north, the Duwamish Peninsula to the east, and the Burien city limits to the south. In 1997, our society opened the Log House Museum. Our museum, originally built in 1904, now serves as a place for our community to learn more about the history of this area.

The Southwest Seattle Historical Society produces many activities, programs, and events during the year. This includes producing exhibits, giving tours of the museum and local historic structures, and running a lecture series. We also work to assist with historic preservation in our service area and collect items of historic importance for preservation in the museum's collection.
